The Liboary Pig: Pig Out on Books
2000 / David Ross / Cincinnati
This fiberglass sculpture depicts a pig towing a wagon stacked with books. The pig is painted purple with pink and blue letters of varying sizes on its body. Some of the books in the wagon are titles that include pigs as characters (like "Charlotte's Web" and "Animal Farm"). Other books are labeled with author names and titles that feature puns on pig-related terms (like "Pigmalion" and "Ernest Hammingway").
The sculpture was created as part of "The Big Pig Gig" project in the summer of 2000. Local artists and schools created over 400 pig sculptures that were displayed throughout downtown Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. At the conclusion of the exhibition, some of the works were sold on eBay and many remain on public display throughout the greater Cincinnati area.
(NOTE: As of 2021-11 sculpture has been removed temporarily due to construction work.)
