Past Pavilion

An installation by Daniel W. Bickerstaff meant to represent the past, present, and future of the African-American people. The Past Pavilion takes the form of slave castle dungeons and passageways, evoking the experience of the Transatlantic Slave trade. Two granite blocks rise out of the plaza, framing space along with the sandstone arch to create the "door of no return". Through the Door, a blue mosaic Infinity Fountain can be seen, representing the ancestral view of the Atlantic Ocean.
