Civil War Memorial; Medina OH
Date Unknown / Creator Unknown / Medina
Civil war soldier in uniform, hands on the muzzle of a rifle and standing in "parade rest." The figure stands on top of a stepped base that is carried on Gothic arches and supported by Corinthian-styled columns.
The style of the sculpture looks similar to that of a ready-made design from an 1882 catalog from the Monumental Bronze Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Hundred of these sculptures can be found all over the state (and country), and although a lot of them cannot be confirmed, most of these near-identical designs in the eastern part of the country can often be attributed to either the Monumental Bronze Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut, or the W. H. Mullins Company of Salem, Ohio.
