00369 Luke Easter.jpg

Bust portrait of Luke Easter, a Cleveland Indians power hitter. Easter played in the last Negro League World Series ever. His excellent performance caught the eye of Indians owner Bill Veeck, who came to sign home run powerhouse Luke Easter. He played until his age and injuries stopped him, but in that short time hit the longest Home Run in Cleveland Municipal Stadium's history. He was well loved by his teammates on and off the diamond. Easter was killed when two bank robbers shot him twice in the chest during a robbery in 1979.
