Hearth
2008 / Khanlar Gasimov / Cleveland
Made of polished stainless steel, this 8-ton mirror-like sculpture anchors the flame-themed Azerbaijan Cultural Garden. Inspired by historical Azerbaijani poet, Ganjavi, and philosopher, Imadeddin Nasimi, the artist states the sculpture's form represents "limits, containment, and the finite, while the circles represent boundlessness, openness.” A decorative plaque marks the garden and sculpture, describing both Azerbaijan's natural and cultural resources as the "land of eternal fire" that "ignites the imagination, warms the spirit, and kindles the soul".
Location: Azerbaijan Cultural Garden , 751 Martin Luther King Blvd.
