Coach Wren
2001 / Donald John Lundstrom / Athens
This sculpture is made of reinforced Portland cement, finished and sealed with a green-brown patina. It measures slightly over 8 feet, including the brick-faced base.
The work honors Bob Wren (1920-2002), who still holds the record for the all-time highest winning percentage for any Ohio University baseball coach and one of the all-time best in the NCAA. An OU alum himself ('43), Wren was the head coach of the Bobcats baseball team from 1949-72 and never had a losing season. The statue was created by one of Wren's former players, Don Lundstrom, and installed September 22, 2001, on the grounds of the baseball facility that also bears his name, Bob Wren Stadium. It was a gift to the university from Wren's players and fans. There is a plaque on the brick base that is dedicated to all of OU's former coaches and honors Wren and his impact on his players.
The statue is located inside the gates surrounding the Bob Wren Stadium at Ohio University.
