Tuskegee Airmen Mural

This is a grand mural commemorating the Tuskegee Airmen and Steubenville, Ohio showing brothers Jerome and John “Ellis” Edwards and eight planes. Jerome Edwards was killed in 1943 when the P-51 he was piloting crashed on takeoff, but his younger brother went on to earn the Distinguished Flying Cross after single-handedly shooting down two Messerschmitts. The Edwards brothers were Tuskegee Airmen, part of the 332nd Air Division “Red Tail” Squadron. The mural depicts the Edwards brothers striding across the airstrip in Italy, preparing to go into battle. The mural is located on Washington Street in Steubenville, Ohio.
