This is an old horse drinking fountain, once located on Penn Ave. Salem, Ohio. It is now preserved in the herb garden at the Salem Historical Society. Fountains of this type once stood at numerous locations throughout the city of Salem when horses were the main form of transportation. The original location on Penn Ave, where the founted stood is not known.
The Sculpture now exists as a running fountain with water gushing. This provides a nice view for passers-by. The fountain was discovered in 2016 and transported to the Pittsburgh Foundry and Machine Company in Salem, Ohio where it was sandblasted and painted. The fountain was originally green but painted white when refurbished.
