The David Berger Monument
1975 / David E. Davis / Beachwood
11 free-standing slabs are arranged in a circle and are topped by 11 other slabs set at perpendicular angles. Above these rests an assembly of half-circles, united around a central axis. Their position suggests a rising and falling movement. The sculpture is dedicated to David Berger, an Israeli Olympic team member and former greater Cleveland resident, who was killed along with 10 others in a terrorist attack at the 1972 Olympics in Munich. The sculpture is surrounded by a circular planting of shrubs with a plaque east of the sculpture. March 5, 1980 recognized by Interior Department as National Historic Landmark. It was moved when the Mayfield Road Jewish Community Center closed as is now at 26001 S Woodland Rd, Beachwood, OH
