Sgt. Baker Statue

A statue of a Union soldier that stands on the outside of the Monumental Building in Sidney Ohio. He is known as "Sgt. Baker." According to a Shelby County Historical Society article, veterans of the Civil war lobbied for the statue "...as a lesson to perpetuate memories of valor and sacrifice and to "inculcate lessons of patriotism in the present and coming generations."
According to a Shelby County Historical Society article, the statue is from the same J. W. Fiske mold as the Richland County Soldiers' Monument statue. The Sgt. Baker statue was used as a reference when recreating the Richland statue after its demise in 1976.
