They Have Landed
2011 / Loren Naji / Cleveland
A 3000 pound, 8 foot diameter plywood sculpture installed at Abby and Carnegie, in front of the Greater Cleveland RTA transit center.
The sculpture is largely defined by the sphere, in reference to the planets in our solar system, and alien life touching down. A fitting subject considering Northeast Ohio was the most active site in the world for UFO sightings throughout the 50's and 60's. As noted in the plaque, this piece also serves the function of a time capsule dated to 9/23/2011, to be opened on 9/23/2050.
