Soldiers and Sailors Monument

The installation of this monument was made possible by planning and fundraising by Civil War veteran members of the Ripley Post of the Grand Army of the Republic. The monument is crafted from Barre granite, quarried in Vermont. Standing approximately 40 feet high, it is topped by a life size depiction of a soldier in a Union uniform, posing with a rifle. The front of the monument is inscribed with the words "Our Fallen Heroes" and is etched with a depiction of the American flag over a setting sun.
