River Run

This is a sculptural footbridge that stands by the Life Science Research Facility on the Ohio University campus. Each side has a set of three wavy steel bars, intended to look like the layers of rock in the former riverbed below. There is a stone bench shaped in a similar fashion beneath the metal pieces.

The artist describes the piece as follows: "Native stone rises out of the river bed and creates seating areas on either side of the bridge. Steel sculptural elements echo the once roaring river that was re-channeled to prevent flooding. In the evening these sculptural forms, lit from within, continue to echo the wave patterns of the once roaring river."

The piece was created in 2002 from a commission by the Ohio Arts Council.
