Memoria Technica

2002 / Robert J. Huff / Marion

Memoria Technica Close Up View

An arrangement of 25 concrete columns rising from the ground that through varying heights and angles of the top surfaces form a curved appearance.

The sculpture was commissioned by Marion Technical College as part of the Honor Grove, honoring MTC employees with 25 years or more of service. The artist, Robert J. Huff, chose the 25 stone columns to represent the years of service and stated that "The emerging spherical shape of the stones' top edges represent the processes of development and change," and that the arrangement of the columns in a grid pattern "refers to the scientific process and rational systems of thought." Bricks etched with the names of the honored employees form a circle around the sculpture.

The sculpture is located on the campus of Marion Technical College on the edge of the east side of the pond, just south of the bridge.
